Have a bucking good time at Nevertire this long weekend
Time to dust off the boots, the Atmos Renewables Nevertire Rodeo is on again
Get ready to kick up some dust because the Atmos Renewables Nevertire Rodeo is just around the corner, returning this October long weekend for another massive day of action.
The gates swing open at midday on Sunday, October 4, with spectators set to enjoy all the thrills and spills at the tiny community of Nevertire’s biggest annual event.
More than ten times the population of the entire village pack out Noel Waters Oval each year, and 2026 is shaping up to be the biggest and boldest rodeo yet.
Tom Russ, President of We of the Nevertire, the volunteer committee behind the event, said he was excited to welcome riders, families and visitors back to the arena.
“After another record-breaking crowd last year, we’re gearing up for a cracking show in 2026,” Tom said. “We’ve got a huge program of events and some incredible competitors heading our way. It’s always a great day out for the whole community,"
“There’s almost $10,000 in prize money up for grabs. We’ve also teamed up with the Cobar Rodeo committee again to continue our ‘Best in the West’ competition."
Riders who compete in the Open Barrels, Open Bull Ride, Open Saddlebronc and Open Bareback at both the Cobar Rodeo on Saturday October 3 and Nevertire Rodeo on Sunday October 4 will be battling it out for the chance to win bragging rights and custom ‘Best in the West’ belt buckles.
"It’s been a fantastic initiative the last few years and we look forward to welcoming riders and the committee from Cobar to Nevertire to present the winners."
This year’s rodeo features a stacked lineup of Open, Novice, Ladies, Junior and Juvenile events, including crowd favourites like the Bull Ride, Saddle Bronc, Bareback, Barrel Race, Steer Rides and the ever popular Locals Steer Ride.
New for 2026 is the Women’s Ranch Saddle Bronc, giving female riders another chance to showcase their skill and grit.
The not-for-profit event is run by a dedicated group of volunteers from the community, with all funds raised from the rodeo donated back into the region.
Tom said the community spirit behind the event remains one of its strongest drawcards.
“It’s volunteers on the gate, behind the bar, cooking the barbecue and keeping everything running smoothly,” he said.
“Every dollar raised goes straight back into the region. It’s a huge effort from a small community, and we’re incredibly proud of what we put on each year.”
Spectators can enjoy a full bar, barbecue, food stalls and entertainment throughout the day. EFTPOS is available, though visitors are encouraged to bring cash due to patchy service with large crowds. Limited shade and seating means bringing your own chair, and your biggest cowboy hat, is highly recommended.
Tom also acknowledged the ongoing support of sponsors who make the event possible.
